Smith Tallies Ten Points to Lead Lady Colonels over Old Westbury 21-7

SCRANTON, PA – The Lady Colonels picked up a 21-7 non-conference win over Old Westbury Friday afternoon, in a game played on the campus of Marywood.

Wilkes improves to 2-1 on the short season with Old Westbury dropping to 1-1.

Maura Brownsey (Glenside, PA/St. Basil Academy) opened the scoring at the 27:28 minute mark in the first half scoring unassisted.  Brownsey's sister Madeleine Brownsey (Glenside, PA/St. Basil Academy) followed with two consecutive goals extending the Lady Colonels lead to 3-0 five minutes into the game.

Old Westbury trimmed the lead to 4-2 before Wilkes picked off five straight goals over an eight minute stretching their advantage to 9-2.  Courtney Gallagher scored her second goal of the game for the Panthers making it 9-3 before Wilkes racked up five straight goals in five minutes to make it 14-3.  The score going into the half was 15-4 Wilkes.  Madeleine Brownsey (Glenside, PA/St. Basil Academy) led the way with five goals scored while Carley Smith (York, PA/Dallastown) tallied seven points on four assists and three goals.

The Panthers scored the first two goals of the second half to trail by nine.  That was the closest the Panthers would get as Wilkes scored five more goals and Tori Kerr (Beacon, NY/Beacon) finished the scoring with just over six minutes left in the game to give the Lady Colonels their 21st and final tally of the afternoon.

Wilkes took 33 shots on the afternoon and held Old Westbury to 12.  Smith finished with 10 points on four goals and six assists, Madeleine Brownsey (Glenside, PA/St. Basil Academy) scored six goals on eleven shots and Tori Kerr (Beacon, NY/Beacon) scored four goals on five shots.  Maura Brownsey (Glenside, PA/St. Basil Academy) and Jessyca Held (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) scored a pair of goals for the Lady Colonels and Melanie Rivera (Middletown, NY/Middletown), Samatha Lawlor and Jessica MacConchie (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) all scored one goal apiece.

Kellie Kalada (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) made four saves in the goal for her second win of the season and Heather Lorincz (Bridgewater, NJ/Immaculata) also recorded one save.

Wilkes returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Houghton, NY to take on Houghton College at 2:00 p.m.
