Lady Colonels Lacrosse cruises to 18-8 Win over Alfred
 
ALFRED, N.Y. – The Lady Colonels won their fourth game in a row on the road 18-8 over Alfred University on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Wilkes improves to 5-1 overall while Alfred drops to 0-2.
 
Wilkes scored the first four goals of the game and seven out of the first eight as they led 7-1 with 11:12 left in the first half.  Carley Smith (York, PA/Dallastown) fresh off her second straight Freedom Player of the Week honors scored four of the goals and added one assist.  Smith picked up her 5th goal of the half with 2:39 remaining to put Wilkes up 9-2 heading into the break.
 
Wilkes extended their lead scoring two goals with a man down to start the second half to extend their lead to 11-2.  The two teams traded goals throughout the second half with Wilkes remaining in control throughout.  Tori Kerr (Beacon, NY/Beacon) scored three second half goals for the Lady Colonels and Melanie Rivera (Middletown, NY/Middletown) posted two goals.
 
The Lady Colonels outshot the Saxons 36-20 and forced 27 turnovers.  Smith finished with nine points on the day scoring six goals and adding three helpers.  Kerr scored four goals, while Jessyca Held (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon), Samntha Lawlor and Rivera all scored two goals in the win.  Kellie Kalada (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) allowed seven goals and made four saves in the goal for Wilkes.
 
Wilkes returns to action on Saturday when they host Rutgers-Camden in their home opener.  The game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
