Late Rally Falls Short as Wilkes Women's Lacrosse Falls 16-14 at Misericordia
 
DALLAS, PA – Despite seven goals from Madeleine Brownsey, the Wilkes University women's lacrosse team trailed 10-7 at the half and were unable to mount a full comeback falling 16-14 at Freedom Conference rival Misericordia University on Wednesday night.
 
Wilkes loses its third straight game dropping to 8-4 overall and 0-3 in league play.
 
Misericordia jumped out to a 10-5 lead with just over two minutes to play in the first half before goals from Brownsey and Carley Smith (York, PA/Dallastown) brought the Lady Colonels to within three at the break.
 
Wilkes tied the game at 12-12 with 14:44 left in the second half before Misericordia rallied for three straight goals to go back up 15-12 with 6:01 remaining.
 
Brownsey and Jessica MacConchie (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) added strikes for Wilkes with under three minutes left, but the rally was short as the host Cougars held on for the two-point conference victory.
 
Smith added one goal and a team-high four assists to go along with Brownsey's team-high seven tallies. Jessyca Held (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) posted three goals while Callie Flowers (Lexington Park, MD/Leonardtown), MacConchie and Samantha Lawlor (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield) each contributed one goal in the loss.
 
Heather Lorincz (Bridgewater, NJ/Immaculata) suffered the loss in net for Wilkes finishing with seven saves.
 
Wilkes travels to Eastern University Saturday at 1:00 p.m. looking for its first Freedom win of 2015.
