FDU-Florham Knocks Off Wilkes Baseball in Walk-Off Fashion

MADISON, NJ – Reynaldo Diaz's two RBI single in the bottom of the 9th propelled the Devils to a 7-6 walk-off win over the visiting Colonels on Friday afternoon.

With the loss the Colonels drop to 14-13 overall and 8-6 in the Freedom Conference.  FDU-Florham improves to 7-17 overall and 5-7 in the Freedom.

James Brown (Covington, PA/North Pocono) put the Colonels up 1-0 in the first with a double to left plating Jarett Clymer on the play.  The Devils tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the 4th with an RBI single off of starting pitcher Patrick Condo (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer).

Wilkes plated three runs in the top of the 6th to lead 4-1 thanks to a failed pickoff attempt and double steal that saw Clymer steal second and Bobby Schappell (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) steal home.  Brown singled through the right side for his second RBI of the day to give the Colonels their fourth run.

The Colonels relinquished the lead in the bottom half of the 6th when FDU scored four runs to take a 5-4 lead.  Stephen Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) tied the game in the top of the 7th ripping a double to right.

Freshman Joe Champi (Dupont, PA/Pittston) came up huge for the Colonels in the top of the 9th hit a solo home run to left that put Wilkes up 6-5 heading into the bottom half of the 9th inning.  Needing just three outs to secure an important Freedom Conference win the Colonels squandered the lead as Matt Kaster (Traben-Trabach, Germany/Crestwood) gave up the two run single to center blowing the save.

Matthew Reese (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro), Schappell, Champi, and Brown all picked up two hits on the day.  Condo lasted five innings allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out five.  Kaster picked up the loss allowing two runs, two hits and walking one.

Wilkes returns to action tomorrow when they host FDU-Florham in a doubleheader at Artillery Park.  First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
