DAVIDS, PA – The Wilkes University softball team dropped a pair of games at Freedom foe Eastern University falling 9-4 in game one before a 9-6 setback in the second game Friday afternoon. Wilkes slips to 6-16 overall and 2-8 in conference play following the two defeats. Game one saw Eastern take a 6-0 lead after three innings of play before a two-run home run from Wilkes' Brooke Limeberry (Easton, PA/Easton) cut the advantage to 6-2 in the fourth. The Eagles added a two-run home run of their own in the bottom of the fourth before Lacey Bixler (Williamstown, PA/Williams Valley) added an RBI single making the score 8-3 after five. Eastern plated another run in the sixth before one last Wilkes tally in the seventh on a fielder's choice off the bat of Jenna Graziano (Hawthorne, NJ/Hawthorne). Limeberry and Bixler posted two hits each to lead the Lady Colonel bats in game one. Christina Gambino (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) suffered the defeat pitching four innings allowing nine hits and eight runs. Wilkes trailed from start to finish in game two using hits from Alex Hoops (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) (RBI single) and Bixler (two-run home run) to plate its runs in the third inning. Emily McGrath (Upper Darby, PA/Drexel Hill) connected on Wilkes' second long ball of game two hitting a two-run homer to centerfield in the fifth cutting the Eastern lead to 8-5. Each team added runs in the sixth and seventh with the Eagles holding strong to its three-run win. McGrath led the Wilkes bats in game two going 2-for-3 with three RBI's. Kim Jones (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) picked up the loss in the circle going three innings allowing five hits and three runs. Wilkes travels to FDU-Florham tomorrow (Saturday) for a Freedom doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. in Madison, NJ.Print Friendly Version
