Wilkes moves to 7-17 overall and 3-9 in Freedom games following the split. Wilkes raced out to a 3-0 lead in game two thanks to all three runs in the second frame. With the bases loaded, Grace Sanzalone (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingstone) earned a walk plating a run followed by a big two-run single to left field from Alex Hoops (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) capping the three-run rally. FDU-Florham pushed one pass the plate in the third to cut the Wilkes lead to 3-1, but an Emily McGrath (Upper Darby, PA/Drexel Hill) RBI double to left field later in the seventh added all the insurance runs the Lady Colonels would need to salvage the split. Kim Jones (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) was the difference in the game two win for Wilkes in the circle going all seven innings allowing just one run on five hits earning her fifth victory of the season in the process. Wilkes did have a lead in game one thanks to a solo home run off the bat of Lacey Bixler (Williamstown, PA/Williams Valley), but the advantage was short-lived as FDU-Florham answered with two runs of its own in the fourth and two more in the fifth holding on to the 4-1 victory. Christina Gambino (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) suffered the loss in the circle in game one pitching all six innings allowing the four runs on six hits. Wilkes travels to Penn State Hazleton on Tuesday for a non-league doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m.Print Friendly Version
