Wilkes collected a 7-2 win in game one before falling 7-3 in the second game of the conference doubleheader. Wilkes stands 5-9 overall and 1-3 in league play following the split. In game one, back-to-back singles from Alex Hoops (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) and Lacey Bixler (Williamstown, PA/Williams Valley) led off the Wilkes first before a Christina Gambino (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) cleared the bases with a two-run triple down the right field line. One batter later Ally Paskas (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) made it 3-0 Wilkes when she singled home Gambino. Hoops added her second hit of the day, an RBI single to left field, pushing the Wilkes lead to 4-0. One batter later Bixler notched her second hit of the day as well blasting a two-run home run over the center field fence extending the lead to 6-0 after two innings of play. DVC pushed two runs across the plate in the top of the fourth before Gambino plated her third run on a single to left field in the fifth as Wilkes secured the 7-2 victory in seven innings. Hoops, Bixler, Gambino and Paskas all finished with two hits each for Wilkes at the plate. Kim Jones (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) earned the win in the circle going all seven innings scattering six hits and two runs while striking out nine Aggies. Wilkes took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two when a throwing error on the catcher plated Bixler. Delaware Valley took the lead in the second scoring twice in the frame before adding to its advantage with three more runs in the fourth up 5-1. The Lady Colonels cut the lead to 5-2 scoring once in the fourth when Paskas connected on an RBI single. McGrath drilled a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth making it 7-3 DVC with two innings left to play. From there, DVC shut the door on any hopes of a Wilkes comeback holding the Lady Colonels scoreless over their final six outs. Wilkes remains idle until Tuesday when the Lady Colonels travel to cross-town rival King's College for a Freedom doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m.Print Friendly Version
