Women's Lacrosse Drops Freedom Opener at FDU-Florham 24-17
 
MADISON, NJ – The Lady Colonels were unable to amount a second half comeback as they fell to the Devils 24-17 on Thursday afternoon. 

With the loss Wilkes drops to 8-2 overall and 0-1 in the Freedom Conference while FDU-Florham improves to 6-3 overall and 1-0 in the Freedom.

The Lady Colonels jumped open to a quick 5-2 lead 12 minutes into the game thanks to three goals from Madeleine Brownsey (Glenside, PA/St. Basil Academy).  From there the Devils took control of the game scoring seven goals in a 13 minute span to go up 9-5 with 3:28 remaining in the half.  Brownsey scored her 4th of the half to make it a 9-6 game before FDU scored four goals in the final two minutes of the half to lead 13-6 at the break.

The two teams exchanged the first four goals of the second half before the Devils scored three consecutive goals to take an 18-8 advantage with 22:45 to go in the game.  Tori Kerr (Beacon, NY/Beacon) and Carley Smith (York, PA/Dallastown) scored goals to trim the lead to 19-10 before FDU tacked on two more to make it 21-10.  Wilkes trimmed the lead to seven scoring four goals in three minutes before stymied the run with three of their own to maintain their lead at 24-14.  The final three goals of the game came from the Lady Colonels as Brownsey scored a pair and Smith one to close the game out at 24-17.

FDU outshot Wilkes 37-32 for the game and won the draw control battle 25-18.  Wilkes forced 24 turnovers on the day and picked up 15 groundballs.  Brownsey finished with eight goals with Smith picking up six points (3 G, 3 A).  Kerr notched three goals with Jessyca Held (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) collecting a pair and Samantha Lawlor (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield) picking up a goal on the day. 

Wilkes returns to action April 8th when they host River Street Rival King's College in a Freedom Conference affair at 4:00 p.m.
