King's Outlasts Wilkes Women's Lacrosse in OT Thriller
 
EDWARDSVILLE – Wilkes University's Madeleine Brownsey scored a career-high nine goals and added one helper but visiting King's College scored the game-winner in overtime with :26 left to propel the Lady Monarchs to a 17-16 Freedom win Wednesday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.
 
Wilkes drops to 8-3 overall and 0-2 in league play while King's improves to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in conference games.
 
After King's took a 1-0 lead four minutes into the game, Wilkes responded with a goal from Brownsey tying the game thirty seconds later.
 
The teams traded goals again with Tori Kerr (Beacon, NY/Beacon) knotting the score at 2-2 with 8:20 left. After another King's goal, Brownsey and Melanie Rivera (Middletown, NY/Middletown) put the Lady Colonels ahead 4-3 at the break.
 
Kerr added her second tally of the game upping the Wilkes advantage to 5-3 one minute into the second half. Brownsey scored her second of the game three minutes later as Wilkes led 6-3 with 25:40 remaining.
 
Samantha Lawlor (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield) made it five straight goals for Wilkes as the Lady Colonels pushed its lead to 7-3 after Lawlor made good on a free-position attempt. Kerr completed the hat trick one minute later off a Carley Smith (York, PA/Dallastown) assist and Jessyca Held (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) notched a free-position goal making it 9-3.
 
Brownsey added four more goals midway through the second half before five straight King's goals cut the Wilkes lead to 13-11 with one minute left.
 
Two more King's strikes before regulation ended tied the game at 13-13 heading into the extra frame.
 
Brownsey and Smith scored Wilkes' first three goals of the overtime session as the Lady Colonels led 16-14. King's responded tying the game with 1:06 and then netted the eventual game-winning tally with :26 on the clock to secure the victory.
 
Kerr finished with three goals and one assist while Smith posted one goal and four helpers.
 
Kellie Kalada (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) made seven saves in net for Wilkes.
 
Wilkes remains idle until April 15 when the Lady Colonels travel to Dallas, Pa. for a Freedom matchup with Misericordia University.
