Wilkes improves to 9-5 overall and 1-4 in league games while Manhattanville drops to 4-10 overall and 1-4 in conference contests. Wilkes stormed out to a 10-4 lead at the break thanks to the scoring duo of Kerr and Brownsey. The pair combined for seven of Wilkes' ten first half goals. After the Valiants scored the first two goals of the game, Wilkes rattled off the next five goals with two coming from Brownsey. Manhattanville cut the lead to 5-3 before two goals each from Kerr and Brownsey pushed the Lady Colonels advantage back to 8-3 with 2:08 left in the half. Samantha Lawlor (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield) capped the first half scoring for Wilkes with a strike with just over a minute on the clock. Manhattanville began to mount a comeback midway through the second half scoring six of its ten goals in an eight minute stretch cutting the Wilkes lead to 15-13. Goals from Jessica MacConchie (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) and Jessyca Held (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) kept Wilkes ahead for good as the Lady Colonels held on for their first league win of 2015. Brownsey finished with a team-high six goals and one assist, while Kerr followed with five goals and two helpers. Samantha Lawlor (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield) and MacConchie scored two goals each in the win. Heather Lorincz (Bridgewater, NJ/Immaculata) recorded the victory in net finishing with six saves playing all sixty minutes. Wilkes hosts Maritime College Thursday at 5:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium before wrapping up Freedom play on Saturday against Delaware Valley University.Print Friendly Version
