Wilkes moves to 9-19 overall following the non-league split. Wilkes took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second in game one thanks to a sacrifice fly off the bat of Brooke Limeberry (Easton, PA/Easton) that scored Ally Paskas (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford). Scranton answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning using a two-run homer to do its damage. Wilkes then went long ball in the third with home runs from Alex Hoops (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) (two-run) and Lacey Bixler (Williamstown, PA/Williams Valley) (solo) to take back the advantage at 4-2. Another insurance run came in the fifth when Emily McGrath (Upper Darby, PA/Drexel Hill) connected on an RBI double scoring Paskas again as Wilkes led 5-2 through five. Scranton mounted a comeback in the sixth scoring twice, but starter Christina Gambino (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) shut the door in the seventh to preserve her third win in the circle of the season. Grace Sanzalone (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingstone), Bixler and Paskas each finished with two hits for Wilkes at the plate. Gambino went all seven innings allowing four runs on six hits throughout. Game two went scoreless through three innings before Wilkes scored one run in the fourth off an RBI single from Liz Lisiecki (Moscow, PA/North Pocono). Scranton grabbed the lead in the bottom of the frame and never looked back plating four runs in the fourth and seven more in the fifth before the game was called in the sixth due to rain. Bixler provided an RBI hit in the four-run Wilkes fifth inning. Nicole Cumbo (Wyoming, PA/Wyoming Area) suffered the loss in the circle going all five innings allowing 12 runs on 11 hits while striking out three Royal batters. Wilkes hosts DeSales Saturday in both teams' Freedom Conference finale at 1:00 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex. Three Wilkes senior players as well as the 2006 Freedom Conference championship team and Wilkes All-Americans will be honored during the games.Print Friendly Version
