Women's Soccer Suffers Tough Loss against Randolph-Macon
FREDERICKBURG, VA. – The Wilkes University suffered a tough loss 1-0 in the first game of the Mary Washington Soccer Classic against Randolph-Macon College on Saturday at Mary Washington.
The Lady Colonels fell to 1-3-1 with the loss while the Yellow Jackets improved to 3-1 with the win.
Wilkes had the best scoring chance of the first half, when forward
Shelby Trumbo (Landingville, PA/Schuylkill Haven) hit the crossbar in the 38
th minute.
The loan goal of the game came in the 66
th minute when Randolph-Macon forward Taylor Anne Barry was able to put a shot past Lady Colonels' goalkeeper
Kate Mahoney (Kingston, NH/Central Catholic) with an assist from forward Kate Schwalen.
Wilkes put forth an all-out offensive effort in the second half, outshooting the Yellow Jackets 8-4. The Lady Colonels had two shots that beat Randolph-Macon's goalkeeper in the second half, but both hit the crossbar.
Mahoney fell to 1-3-1 with the loss, making five saves in the effort. Yellow Jackets goalkeeper Elizabeth Blanco improved to 3-1 with the win while making four saves.
Wilkes returns to action tomorrow when it faces the University of Mary Washington in the final day of the Mary Washington Soccer Classic, and return home on Wednesday to face William Paterson for a 4 p.m. non-conference match.
