Women's Soccer Concludes Va. Trip with Loss at Mary Washington
FREDERICKSBURG, VA. – The Wilkes University women's soccer team concluded its trip to the Mary Washington Soccer Classic with a 2-1 loss at host Mary Washington.
The Lady Colonels fell to 1-4-1 with the loss, while the Eagles improved to 4-2 with the win.
Wilkes struck first in the game, when forward
Micaela Oliverio (Carlisle, PA/Trinity) found the back of the net in the 20
th minute with the assist going to fellow forward
Shelby Trumbo (Landingville, PA/Schuylkill Haven).
Mary Washington netted the equalizer in the 57
th minute, as forward Christiana Meyers found the net off an assist from midfielder Maryfay Jackson.
The Eagles took the lead for good in the 80
th minute when defender Michelle Gibbons scored unassisted.
Lady Colonels' goalkeeper
Kate Mahoney (Kingston, NH/Central Catholic) fell to 1-4-1, making six saves in the loss. Mary Washington goalkeeper Haley Randall made three saves in the win, improving her record to 4-2.
Wilkes returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts William Paterson for a 4 p.m. non-conference match.
