Women's Volleyball Goes 1-1 in Friday Night Tri-match

WILKES-BARRE- The Wilkes University women's volleyball team went 1-1 in a Friday night tri-match hosted by the Lady Colonels, falling by a 3-1 (25-27, 23-25, 25-21, 18-25) score to Alfred State and defeating Sarah Lawrence College 3-0 (25-7, 25-7, 25-10).

Wilkes' record is now 5-6 with the win and loss.

The Lady Colonels were led in the first match by sophomore opposite hitter Madison Scarfaro (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall), who had 13 kills. She was followed by junior outside hitter Kayley Schinski (Plymouth, PA/Nanticoke) (nine) and sophomore middle hitter Ellen Mook (Meadville, PA/Meadville) (nine). Sophomore setter supported the attack with 37 assists. Freshman setter Julia Winkle (South Wales, NY/Iroquois Central) had three assists for Wilkes, with junior outside hitter Ally Paskas (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) contributed two.

The Lady Colonels were led on the defensive front by sophomore libero Danica Benson (Allentown, PA/Emmaus)'s 17 digs, with Winkle adding 11 and Paskas getting 10. Mook led the defensive front line with four blocks.

In the nightcap against Sarah Lawrence, Wilkes was led by Paskas, who thundered eight kills, with sophomore outside hitter Grace Boyle (Andreas, PA/Marian Catholic) and freshman opposite hitter Tawnee Hopper (El Cajon, CA/Granite Hills) both getting five kills. Morgan again led the offense with 23 assists. Boyle led the service attack with eight aces, while freshman libero Logan Hatt (Womelsdorf, PA/Conrad Weiser) netting six and Hopper acing five.

Morgan and Benson led the defensive effort with six digs each.

The Lady Colonels return to action on Saturday when they will host Cairn and Delaware Valley for a tri-match with the first game against Cairn set to tip-off  at 11:30 a.m.
