Wilkes Volleyball Splits Pair of Matches on Day One of Lycoming Tournament
 
WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Wilkes University volleyball team split a pair of matches on day one of the Lycoming College Warriors Tip-Off Tournament claiming a 3-0 victory over Misericordia before falling 3-2 against Alfred State.
 
Just days after dropping a 3-1 match to the Cougars in Freedom play at the Marts Center, Wilkes claimed some revenge ousting Misericordia in three sets by scores of 25-23, 25-18 and 25-13.
 
Madison Scarfaro (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) led the attack with a season-high 10 kills while Abby Sanders (Allentown, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) and Ellen Mook (Meadville, PA/Meadville) each contributed six kills as Wilkes posted 34 team kills in the victory. Megan Powers (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) led the passing game with 25 assists and Danica Benson (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) the backline with 17 digs.
 
Wilkes second match of the night featured another rematch of teams playing at the Marts Center days before where Alfred State took a 3-1 win. This time the Lady Colonels went all five sets falling in the fifth and deciding set 15-12 after battling back down 2-0 early in the match.
 
Ally Paskas (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) led Wilkes on the offensive against Alfred finishing with 10 kills and 15 digs. Sanders added nine kills while Kayley Schinski (Plymouth, PA/Nanticoke) followed with eight kills and one solo block. Powers paced the passing game with 33 assists.
 
Wilkes concludes play at the tournament tomorrow with matches against host Lycoming at 10:00 a.m. and CCNY at 12:00 p.m.
