Wilkes Volleyball Goes 2-1 at Summit Quad Match
 
CLARKS SUMMIT, PA – The Wilkes University volleyball team swept a pair of matches against host Summit and Penn College before falling 3-1 in its final set of the day at the Defenders quad match on Saturday.
 
Wilkes moves to 3-2 overall on the year following the three-match afternoon.
 
The Lady Colonels cruised to a 3-0 win over Penn in its first competition of the day posting scores of 25-19, 25-15 and 25-11. Ellen Mook (Meadville, PA/Meadville) led the Wilkes attack with nine kills while Madison Scarfaro (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) followed with seven kills.  Danica Benson (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) led the backline with 11 digs while setter Megan Powers (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) posted 32 assists on Wilkes' 38 team kills in the match.
 
Wilkes took its match with the host Defenders by scores of 25-7, 25-18 and 25-17. Tawnee Hopper (El Cajon, CA/Granite Hills) and Grace Boyle (Andreas, PA/Marian Catholic) combined for 14 kills, seven each, to lead the Lady Colonels on the offensive. Powers finished with 25 assists in the passing game while Julie Winkle added eight digs. Hopper served a career-high seven aces in the win.
 
In the match against Lycoming, Wilkes fell 25-16 in set one and 25-21 in set two before rallying for a 25-22 victory in the third set. Lycoming finished off the match with a 25-20 win in the fourth set.
 
Scarfaro led the way with a season-high 11 kills while Ally Paskas (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) and Mook added nine kills each. Powers paced the passing game with 33 assists.
 
Wilkes makes its home debut Wednesday hosting Lancaster Bible at 7:00 p.m. at the Marts Center.
