Robinson sets new career-high but Colonels fall to Misericordia
WILKES-BARRE-
Marcus Robinson (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) scored a career-high 29 points but the Wilkes University men's basketball team fell to Misericordia by a 70-64 final on Wednesday evening at the Marts Center.
The Colonels fell to 0-3 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play and 5-9 overall with the loss.
Neither team was able to pull away in the first half as Wilkes entered halftime down 28-22.
The Cougars started the second half on a 14-3 run to push its lead to the largest of the game at 17 as the score was 42-25 with 13:30 remaining in the half.
The Colonels battled all the way back to tie the score at 54 with 6:30 remaining following a 29-12 run. Wilkes kept the score close the rest of the way, but Misericordia hit 12 of 16 free throws in the final four minutes to seal the game.
The Colonels were led by Robinson's 29 points, also contributing six rebounds and three steals.
Connor Evans (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) totaled 15 points and four rebounds for Wilkes.
The Cougars were led by Jason Kenny, who also scored 29 points to go with four assists. Erik Kearns (16 points, seven rebounds) and Griffin Sponaugle (11 points, six rebounds) also finished in double figures.
The Colonels return to action on Saturday when they host Delaware Valley University in MAC Freedom play with tip-off scheduled for 3 pm at the Marts Center.
