Wilkes Women's Basketball Hangs Tough with FDU-Florham in 78-62 Loss
WILKES-BARRE –
Cara Basile (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) scored a game-high 21 points leading three Lady Colonels in double figures, but visiting FDU-Florham held off a Wilkes University second quarter rally to post a 78-62 victory Friday night in MAC Freedom action in the Marts Center.
Wilkes slips to 3-14 overall and 0-6 in league play following the defeat. FDU-Florham improves to 12-5 overall and 4-2 in conference games.
FDU-Florham raced out to a 26-11 lead after one quarter thanks to an opening 7-0 run that sparked the visiting Devils. Wilkes cut the deficit to five midway through the second frame as a three-pointer from
Catey McFadden (Doylestown, PA/Archbishop Wood) and ensuing layup from
Cara Basile (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) capped off the Lady Colonel rally. Four more quick points from Basile and a transition score from
Jamie Campbell (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) brought Wilkes to within one at 36-35 with 2:30 left in the first half. Seven straight points to end the quarter kept the Devils out in front 43-35 at the break.
FDU-Florham pushed its advantage to as many as 15 points late in the third quarter and used two different 6-0 runs over the final twelve minutes of play to seal the road win.
Basile finished 9-for-14 from the floor adding three rebounds in 32 minutes of action to lead Wilkes. McFadden posted 14 points including two three-pointers while Campbell came off the bench to add 11 points and two boards.
Alyssa McDonough topped FDU-Florham with 18 points and six assists. Shalette Brown followed with 17 points and 19 rebounds.
Wilkes returns to the court Wednesday traveling to cross-town rival King's College for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
