Wilkes Women's Volleyball Splits Pair of Matches on Day Two of Colonel Clash
WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on day two of the 2016 Colonel Clash Tournament hosted at the Marts Center Saturday afternoon. Wilkes picked up a 3-0 sweep of CCNY before falling in four sets 3-1 to Alfred State.
Wilkes finished its home tournament 1-3 over the two-day stretch standing 11-19 overall on the season.
Wilkes was solid in its sweep of CCNY taking the match by scores of 25-10, 25-17 and 25-20.
Ally Paskas (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) continued her fine play on the attack finishing with a team-high eight kills in just two sets of action.
Jamey Mikovich (Nesquehoning, PA/Panther Valley) followed with seven kills and two service aces while
Alex Ferrier (Cressona, PA/Blue Mountain) added four kills and Abby Sander,
Grace Boyle (Andreas, PA/Marian Catholic) and
Madison Scarfaro (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) each tallied three kills in limited action.
Alexis Morgan (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) finished with 18 assists while
Kiersten Wiedwald (Kingston, PA/Wyoming Valley West) entered to set in the final two sets contributing 11 more assists.
Alfred State took the second match of the day over Wilkes by scores of 25-18, 20-25, 25-15 and 25-11. Paskas and Boyle each finished with team-high 10 kills on the Lady Colonel frontline. Mikovich added eight kills and nine digs while Morgan paced the passing game with a match-high 34 assists.
Juliet Betke (Poplar Grove, IL/Belvidere North) led the Wilkes backline with 12 digs from her libero position.
Wilkes concludes MAC Freedom play Wednesday with an important final match at Misericordia University starting at 7:00 p.m. with postseason implications on the line.
