Wilkes Women's Volleyball Sees Postseason Bid Fall Short with 3-0 Loss at Misericordia
DALLAS, PA – With a chance at a postseason berth on the line, the Wilkes University women's volleyball team fell short dropping a 3-0 decision at Misericordia University in both teams' MAC Freedom finale on Wednesday night.
With the loss Wilkes was eliminated from postseason play finishing its MAC Freedom schedule at 2-5. The Lady Colonels stand 11-20 overall heading into its final two matches of the season.
Misericordia took the match in three sets by scores of 25-13, 27-25 and 25-15.
The Cougars raced out to a 5-1 lead in the first set and never looked back pushing its advantage to as much as eleven points before settling for the 25-13 win. Needing to find a win in the second set, Wilkes responded thanks to Jamie Mikovich and
Madison Scarfaro (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) attacks tying the game at 6-6. The teams traded points before Misericordia opened a two-point advantage at 14-12. After a Misericordia attacking error and
Ally Paskas (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) service ace, Wilkes was back even again looking to tie the match at one set apiece. Down by two points late in the set, Scarfaro came through with two straight kills to tie the set yet again at 25. Two consecutive kills from Misericordia sealed the back-and-forth set and gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead.
The third set was close through the first eight points before Misericordia went on a six point run midway through the set on way to a ten point win clinching the sweep and the match.
Scarfaro led all Wilkes attackers with six kills and five total blocks.
Grace Boyle (Andreas, PA/Marian Catholic) and Mikovich followed with five kills each.
Alexis Morgan (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) paced the passing game with 17 assists.
Wilkes concludes its season on Sunday hosting a tri-match at the Marts Center on Senior Day. Wilkes faces Penn State Harrisburg at 11:00 a.m. before a match with Rutgers-Camden at 3:00 p.m.
