Wilkes Field Hockey Dominates both Ends in 4-0 Win over Elmira

EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University dominated both the offensive and defensive ends in a 4-0 win over Elmira College on Tuesday evening at Schmidt Stadium, taking 29 shots (19 on goal) without surrendering a single shot for the Soaring Eagles.

The Lady Colonels improved to 11-7 on the season with the victory.

Wilkes came out of the gate on fire early, taking command of the offensive end with five shots in the first 10 minutes.

Junior Marissa Surdy (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) got the Lady Colonels on the board in the 24th minute when she dribbled through a handful of defenders and laced a shot past Elmira's goalkeeper for her 12th score of the season.

Freshman Gianna Gennetts (West Pittston, PA/Wyoming Area) doubled the lead in the 34th minute with an assist from Surdy, her eighth goal of the season.

Senior Maura Anistranski (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West) extended the lead to three in the 62nd minute with an assist from Surdy, her sixth goal this season.

Senior Amanda Tredinnick (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Meyers) registered her first career goal in her final regular season home game in the 69th minute to reach the 4-0 final when she ripped a shot that was saved, collected her rebound and ripped a shot to the back of the cage.

It was an easy night for sophomore Dallas Kendra (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood), who earned her sixth shutout without having to make a save.

The Lady Colonels close out their regular season on Thursday when they travel to Misericordia for a 7 p.m. MAC Freedom contest.
