Wilkes Women's Soccer Pushes Win Streak to Three with 1-0 Victory Over Cortland
EDWARDSVILLE – For the third consecutive game, the Wilkes University women's soccer team kept the opponent off the board posting a 1-0 victory over SUNY Cortland Tuesday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.
Wilkes pushes its win streak to three straight games, all coming in a 1-0 fashion. The Lady Colonels improve their overall mark to 6-10 overall while Cortland drops to 8-8 overall on the year.
The lone goal of the game came at the 48:54 mark in the second half, when a Wilkes corner kick sailed in front of the net and was knocked in by a Cortland midfielder.
Alyssa Young (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) did the rest in goal for Wilkes collecting her third straight shutout finishing with five saves. Young owns four shutouts on the year.
Wilkes closes out its MAC Freedom schedule on Saturday hosting Manhattanville College at 5:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium. With a win Saturday, Wilkes will clinch the second seed in the upcoming MAC Freedom Tournament and a home match in the semifinals. Wilkes will honor its four senior members in a pre-game ceremony prior to the match.
