Wilkes Women's Volleyball Upended in Five Set Thriller Against King's
WILKES-BARRE – After opening the match winning the first two sets, host Wilkes University stumbled through losses in sets three and four before visiting King's College escaped with a win in set five taking the match 3-2 Tuesday night at the Marts Center.
With the defeat Wilkes falls to 8-12 overall and stands 1-3 in MAC Freedom matches. King's improves to 13-6 overall and evens its conference mark at 2-2 following the road win.
Wilkes cruised to wins in the first two sets by scores of 25-12 and 25-17. King's responded with wins in sets three and four 25-15 and 25-16 to force a deciding fifth set. From there the Lady Monarchs marched out to a 4-1 lead before Wilkes rallied back to tie the set at 12-12 following a service ace from
Alexis Morgan (Walnutport, PA/Northampton). Three straight King's kills sealed the match and the road conference win.
Jamey Mikovich (Nesquehoning, PA/Panther Valley) led Wilkes with 11 kills, 12 digs and four solo blocks.
Ally Paskas (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) followed with nine kills and 11 digs.
Madison Scarfaro (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) added seven kills and a team-best five solo blocks. Morgan paced the passing game with 31 asissts.
King's saw three players reach 12-plus kills in the match led by Julie Kollar's 13 kills and 12 digs.
Wilkes takes to the road Friday and Saturday when the Lady Colonels compete in the Lycoming Tip-Off Classic hosted by Lycoming College in Williamsport. Wilkes faces Penn College at 2:00 p.m. and Gettysburg College at 4:00 p.m. on Friday before matches with Alfred State (10:00 a.m.) and the University of Rochester (12:00 p.m.) on Saturday.
