Wilkes Women's Basketball Falls in Finale of 2016-17 Cross County Challenge to #5 Scranton
SCRANTON – The Wilkes University women's basketball team fell in the finale of the 2016-17 Cross County Challenge to the #5 University of Scranton Royals on Sunday evening by an 81-37 final.
The Lady Colonels fell to 2-4 on the season with the setback.
Scranton jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Wilkes had a 5-2 run to cut the lead to 6-5 with 5:06 following a free throw from
Alyssa Alfano (Dunmore, PA/Holy Cross). The Royals finished the first quarter on a 13-2 run to take a 19-7 lead and never trailed the rest of the way.
Haley Mesaros (Royersford, PA/Pope John Paul II), who led the Lady Colonels with six points and six rebounds, was named the team Most Valuable Player for her efforts this weekend.
Scranton had three players finish in double figures.
Wilkes returns to the floor on Wednesday when it travels to Juniata College with tip off scheduled for 7 p.m.
