Three-Point Shooting and Turnovers Cost Men's Basketball against DeSales

WILKES-BARRE – 21 turnovers and 22 percent (7 of 32) shooting from three-point range cost the Wilkes University men's basketball team in its 76-67 defeat against DeSales University at the Marts Center on Wednesday evening, snapping the Colonels five-game win streak.

The loss drops Wilkes to 11-11 overall and 6-5 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play.

Both teams traded leads throughout the first half, with the Bulldogs securing the largest when it led 26-18 with 2:14 remaining in the first half. DeSales entered halftime with a four point lead at 26-22.

The Colonels started the second half on a 19-9 run to obtain its largest lead of the game at six when they led 41-35 following a three-point play by Steve Stravinski (Pittston, PA/Pittston) with 11:01 remaining in the half.

Immediately following that play, the Bulldogs commenced a 20-4 run to give themselves a 10 point lead at 55-45 with 6:01 in the game. Wilkes would cut the lead to six, but were unable to get any closer as DeSales never trailed the rest of the way.

The Colonels were led by Alec Wizar (Lebanon, PA/Annville Cleona), who finished the game with 18 points and five assists while playing all 40 minutes. Wilkes was also led by Marcus Robinson (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional), who totaled 16 points, and Stravinski, who contributed 11 points and 11 rebounds.

The Bulldogs were led by Cody Deal, Kuity Slanger, and Brian Laird, who each finished with 17 points. Slanger added three steals, five rebounds and six assists.

The Colonels return to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Doylestown to take on Delaware Valley University in a MAC Freedom matchup.
