Brownsey's Overtime Winner leads Women's Lacrosse past Houghton

EDWARDSVILLE- Senior Madeleine Brownsey (Glenside, PA/St. Basil Academy) scored just 11 seconds into overtime, her fourth goal of the game, to lead the Wilkes University women's lacrosse team past Houghton College by an 8-7 final on Friday night at Schmidt Stadium.

The Lady Colonels improved to 2-0 with victory.

Houghton scored the first two goals of the game at 23:42 and a man-up goal at 15:02.

Junior Callie Flowers (Lexington Park, MD/Leonardtown) got Wilkes on the board in the 16th minute on her first goal of the season with an assist from senior Tori Kerr (Beacon, NY/Beacon). Brownsey tallied her first goal of the game in the 19th minute with an assist from senior Melanie Rivera (Middletown, NY/Middletown) to tie the score at two.

The Highlanders scored the next three goals in the 28th, and two in the 33rd minute to take a 5-2 lead with 26:14 remaining in the second half.

Sophomore Jessyca Held (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) cut Houghton's lead to two in the 34th minute unassisted but Houghton scored 34 seconds later to regain the three-goal advantage.

Brownsey trimmed the deficit to one with an unassisted goal in the 39th minute and in the 41st minute on an assist from Held.

The Highlanders put one in in the 44th minute, but the Lady Colonels came storming back when Rivera scored with an assists from Brownsey in the 48th minute, freshman Kyra Boccio (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) scored unassisted in the 51st minute to tie the game, setting the stage for Brownsey's overtime winner.

Freshman Tabitha Gravius (Howell, NJ/Manalapan) made 10 saves to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Wilkes returns to action tomorrow when they host Moravia at 1 p.m.
