Brownsey Strikes Again in Wilkes Women's Lacrosse 14-13 Victory Over Moravian
WILKES-BARRE –
Madeleine Brownsey (Glenside, PA/St. Basil Academy) scored six goals including the game-winner with :49 left in regulation to lift Wilkes University to a 14-13 victory over visiting Moravian College Saturday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.
Wilkes remains unbeaten at 3-0 on the young season following the win while Moravian drops to 1-2 overall after suffering the defeat.
Brownsey, who scored the game-winning goal in last night's overtime Wilkes win, was at it again scoring for the Lady Colonels. After back-to-back goals from teammate
Tori Kerr (Beacon, NY/Beacon), Brownsey added her first of the game at 21:14 of the first half tying the game at 3-3.
Wilkes took its first lead of the contest when Kerr and
Jessyca Held (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) went back-to-back with goals as the Lady Colonels led 5-3 with 19:36 left in the half. Moriavian answered with the game's next three goals to take a 6-5 lead before four straight Wilkes goals closed the half with the hosts leading 9-6. Brownsey added her second and third goals of the game during the four-strike rally to end the frame.
A man-up goal from Brownsey, her fifth strike of the game, put Wilkes ahead by its largest margin of the game at 12-7. Moravian again answered with six of the next seven goals of the contest eventually tying the game with 1:10 left on the clock. From there it was Brownsey who made her way down the field finding the back of the net with :49 remaining to seal the Wilkes non-conference win.
Brownsey added two assists to go with the six goals. Kerr added five goals and one helper while Held,
Kyra Boccio (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) and
Maura Brownsey (Glenside, PA/St. Basil Academy) each added one goal in the win.
Jullian Picciuto led Moravian with two goals and three asissts.
Tabitha Gravius (Howell, NJ/Manalapan) finished with 13 saves in net for Wilkes posting the win. Elisabeth Pontius started for Moravian making seven saves before being replaced by Kelley Gavin who posted four stops.
Wilkes (3-0) hosts SUNY Maritime Tuesday in a non-conference contest at 5:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
