Overtime Goal Lifts Rutgers-Camden Over Wilkes Women's Lacrosse 14-13
CAMDEN, NJ – Krystal Valianti scored with just :40 left in the first overtime to lift host Rutgers-Camden to a 14-13 victory over Wilkes University Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse action.
Wilkes suffers its first defeat of the season standing 5-1 overall following the loss. Rutgers-Camden moves to 3-2 overall on the year after the home win.
The teams traded goals back and forth in the second half with the lead changing or tied on eight different occasions.
Madeleine Brownsey (Glenside, PA/St. Basil Academy) found
Tori Kerr (Beacon, NY/Beacon) for a Wilkes goal with :32 remaining to tie the game at 13-13 and send the teams into an overtime session.
From there it was Valianti who notched the game-winner off a feed from Cecillia Gross with under a minute left in the first three minute overtime period.
Brownsey and Kerr led Wilkes offensively each tallying five goals in the game. Brownsey added one assist while Kerr notched two helpers.
Jessica MacConchie (Jackson, NJ/Jackson),
Melanie Rivera (Middletown, NY/Middletown) and
Maura Brownsey (Glenside, PA/St. Basil Academy) posted the other three goals for the Lady Colonels. MacConchie added a team-high seven ground balls and five caused turnovers.
Tabitha Gravius (Howell, NJ/Manalapan) finished with 12 saves in the net for Wilkes.
Wilkes returns to play tomorrow hosting SUNY Canton at 10:00 a.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
