Wilkes Bats Come Alive in 13-4 Win over PSU-Schuylkill

KINGSTON – The Wilkes University baseball team notched 15 hits and scored 13 runs to defeat Penn State-Schuylkill by a 13-4 final at Artillery Park on Tuesday afternoon.

The Colonels improved to 12-7 with the victory and are now on a five-game win streak.

Wilkes got on the board in the bottom of the first inning on an rbi single from senior Ryan Herbst (East Islip, NY/St. John the Baptist).

In the top of the fourth, Penn State used three hits and two Colonel errors to plate three runs and take a 3-1 lead.

Wilkes exploded in the bottom of the fourth for eight runs on six hits, two walks, one hit by pitch, and a Penn State error to take a 9-3 lead. The Colonels plated four more runs in the bottom of the seventh on five hits and one error. Penn State scored the final run in the top of the ninth.

Junior Johnny Jan Jr. (Germantown, MD/Northwest) got the win for Wilkes to improve to 2-1 on the season, throwing five innings and surrendering three runs (one earned) on six hits with one walk and three strikeouts.

Herbst (2-4, two rbi), sophomore Joe Champi (Dupont, PA/Pittston) (2-4, two runs scored, two rbi), freshman Brady Wing (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) (2-4, one rbi, one run scored) junior Alex Kramer (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) (2-4, one rbi, two runs scored), and junior Dan Eicher (Massapequa Park, NY/Kellenberg) (2-2, one rbi, one run scored) all lead the Colonels at the plate in the win.

Wilkes returns to action tomorrow when it will host Keystone College for a 3 p.m. non-conference game at Artillery Park.
