Wilkes Women's Lacrosse Suffers First MAC Freedom Loss Against FDU-Florham 17-6

EDWARDSVILLE – Visiting FDU-Florham saw five players score two or more goals in a balanced attack on way to a 17-6 victory over host Wilkes University Wednesday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.

Wilkes drops to 11-3 overall and suffers its first conference defeat standing 3-1. FDU-Florham improves to 8-6 overall and jumps into sole possession of first place following the road win.

FDU-Florham kept the high-powered Wilkes offense at bay in the first half, including the conference-leading goal scorer Madeleine Brownsey (Glenside, PA/St. Basil Academy) who was carded twice and forced out of the game. After FDU-Florham took a 2-0 lead, Tori Kerr (Beacon, NY/Beacon) knotted her 42nd goal of the season to cut the lead in half with 22:40 on the clock.

Three more Devils goals pushed the advantage to 5-1 before Maura Brownsey (Glenside, PA/St. Basil Academy) stopped the rally with an unassisted goal with 14:08 remaining.

FDU-Florham extended the lead before the end of the half with two more goals at the ten and three minute marks to take a 7-2 lead at the break.

The FDU-Florham lead grew to 13-3 midway through the second half as the Devils scored seven of the halves first eight goals. Jessyca Held (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon), Jessica MacConchie (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) and Catherin Conte each netted goals with under twelve minutes left for Wilkes.

Held led Wilkes with two goals. Tabitha Gravius (Howell, NJ/Manalapan) finished with seven saves playing all but four minutes in the contest in net.

Up next Wilkes hosts Misericordia on Senior Day Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
