Wilkes Women's Lacrosse Drops Second Straight MAC Freedom Decision to Misericordia

EDWARDSVILLE – Madeleine Brownsey (Glenside, PA/St. Basil Academy) and Tori Kerr (Beacon, NY/Beacon) combined for seven of Wilkes' eight goals, but visiting Misericordia built a three-point lead late and held on to beat the Lady Colonels 10-8 Saturday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.

Wilkes suffers its second straight MAC Freedom defeat falling to 11-4 overall and 3-2 in league games. Misericordia improves to 8-6 overall and remains perfect at 4-0 in the conference, tied with FDU-Florham for first place.

After Misericordia took a 1-0 lead, Brownsey scored her first goal of the game at the 22:48 mark. A free position goal from Misericordia gave the visitors the advantage back briefly before Brownsey struck again at 18:18 tying the game for a second time. Wilkes took its first lead of the contest just a minute later when Tori Kerr (Beacon, NY/Beacon) found the back of the net. Misericordia added three straight goals to take a 5-3 lead before Brownsey's third tally of the half ended the rally. Misericordia added a goal right before the horn sounded to take a 6-4 lead to halftime.

Misericordia pushed the lead to 9-4 over the first eight minutes of the second half scoring the frame's first three goals before a Wilkes timeout. Wilkes responded with back-to-back goals from Kerr and Brownsey pulling the Lady Colonels to within three at 9-6 with 19:05 left on the clock. After another Misericordia goal, Jessyca Held (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) notched her first goal of the game cutting the lead to 10-7. Misericordia then went on to stall in its own offensive zone with the three goal lead using valuable clock time in the process. Kerr scored with 1:00 remaining, but the Cougars garnered the final draw control and ran out the clock to secure the victory.

Brownsey finished with four goals while Kerr added three strikes. Held posted the other Wilkes goal. Tabitha Gravius (Howell, NJ/Manalapan) made ten saves in goal for Wilkes. Katie McLoughlin finished with ten saves for Misericordia in net.

Wilkes travels to Manhattanville College Wednesday to close out its MAC Freedom schedule. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
