Three Goals Push Wilkes Men's Soccer Over PSU-Berks in Season Opener
READING, PA – Visiting Wilkes University broke open a scoreless game just before the half then surged for another goal early in the second frame before adding a third strike late on way to a 3-0 shutout at Penn State Berks Thursday afternoon.
Wilkes moves to 1-0 on the year following the season opening victory.
After the game went scoreless over the first forty minutes,
Ed Lukowski (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke) notched his first career goal off a rebound at the 41:13 mark to give the Colonels a 1-0 advantage. After the break, Wilkes continued its momentum as
Sam Sebia (Laflin, PA/Coughlin) scored off a teammate's shot that hit the PSU-Berks goalie before landing on the foot of the freshman just 1:27 into the second stanza.
Kyle Bentz (Camp Hill, PA/Camp Hill) put the game out of reach for the hosts when he took an Alvaro Fernandez-Mal pass and found the back of the net inside of the right post with 75:40 on the clock.
Tim Gallagher (Easton, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) recorded the shutout in net for Wilkes making three saves. The Colonels controlled most of the contest in its offensive end outshooting PSU-Berks 15-6.
Wilkes returns to the pitch Sunday when the Colonels travel to local rival Marywood University for a non-conference match scheduled for 2:00 p.m.,
