Surdy Scores Twice to Lead Wilkes Field Hockey Past Arcadia 3-2 in Overtime

EDWARDSVILLE – Junior Marissa Surdy (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) scored two goals that gave the Wilkes University field hockey team a lead including the game-winner in the 74th minute to give the Lady Colonels a 3-2 overtime win over Arcadia University on Saturday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.

Wilkes improved to 2-2 with the victory.

The Knights scored first in the 26th minute on just their second shot to take a 1-0 lead.

Senior Taylor Ryan (Fredericksburg, VA/Courtland) got the Lady Colonels on the board with just five seconds remaining in the first half when Surdy floated a shot over the Arcadia goalkeeper that Ryan was able to tip into the net for her second goal of the season.

Surdy gave Wilkes its first lead in the 37th minute when she launched a shot from the top of the circle that sneaked through the Knights' goalkeeper's pads for her first goal of the season.

Arcadia tied the game with an unassisted goal in the 50th minute.

The game remained tied into overtime, when Surdy took a long outlet pass from Ryan, dribbled into the circle, and lined a shot into the lower right corner to send the Lady Colonels home with the victory.

Sophomore Dallas Kendra (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) made one save in the game to earn her second victory.

Wilkes held a 14-5 advantage in shots, with eight shots hitting their target as opposed to four for the Knights. The Lady Colonels also had seven penalty corners compared to five for Arcadia.

Wilkes returns to action on Monday when they travel to Moravian for a 7 p.m. non-conference match-up.
