Surdy's Two Goals Lift Wilkes Field Hockey Over Moravian 2-1

BETHLEHEM, PA – Marissa Surdy (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) scored two goals including the game-winner to lead visiting Wilkes University to a 2-1 victory over Moravian College Monday night in non-conference action.

Wilkes collects its third straight win and improves to 3-2 overall on the season.

Surdy collected her first goal of the game at the 15:46 mark of the first half when she put home a shot off her own rebound right in front of the net. Just eight minutes later, the junior standout was at it again, this time ripping a shot from the top of the circle off the Moravian goalie and into the back of the net as Wilkes led 2-0 with twelve minutes left in the first half.

Moravian scored just before the halftime buzzer sounded cutting the Lady Colonel advantage to 2-1 heading into the break.

Wilkes continued to dominate possession in its offensive end in the second half posting 16 more shots to the net after barraging the Greyhound keeper with 25 shots in the first stanza. Neither team would score over the final 35 minutes of play as Wilkes held on for the one-goal road victory.

Dallas Kendra (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) recorded the victory in net for Wilkes with the help of a stout Lady Colonel backline performance including two defensive saves.

Wilkes held a 41-3 shot advantage and garnered eight penalty corners to Moravian's three attempts.

Wilkes returns to action Wednesday with a non-conference road matchup at Marywood University starting at 4:00 p.m.
