Wilkes Women's Volleyball Captures First MAC Freedom win, Defeats Manhattanville 3-0

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's volleyball team won its first Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom match of the season, defeating Manhattanville College 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-21) at the Marts Center on Tuesday evening.

The Lady Colonels improved to 1-1 in MAC Freedom play and 6-6 overall with the win.

The match was even from the start, with Wilkes gaining the biggest lead at six in the second set. The Lady Colonels snatched all of the momentum in that set after Manhattanville battled back from a 20-14 deficit to tie the game at 24-24 before Wilkes was able to get two points and the game before winning the third set and the match.

The Lady Colonel attack was led by senior Ally Paskas (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford), who finished the match with a team-high 10 kills in addition to her 11 digs and match-high four service aces. Freshman Jamey Mikovich (Nesquehoning, PA/Panther Valley) and junior Grace Boyle (Andreas, PA/Marian Catholic) each added eight kills apiece. Mikovich also added one solo block and two block assists along with five digs, while nine digs, one assist, and one service ace. Junior Alexis Morgan (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) controlled the passing game with 30 assists to go with seven digs and one kill.

Wilkes' back line was led by freshman Juliet Betke (Poplar Grove, IL/Belvidere North), who finished with a match-high 19 digs.

The Lady Colonels return to action on Thursday when they travel to Scranton where they will face with Scranton and Marywood at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., respectively.
