Surdy's Two Goals, Assist Lead Wilkes Field Hockey Over Immaculata 5-1

EDWARDSVILLE – Marissa Surdy (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) scored two goals and added one assist to lead the Wilkes University field hockey team to a 5-1 win over Immaculata University Wednesday night at Schmidt Stadium.

Wilkes improves to 5-3 overall following the home win while Immaculata drops to 3-4 on the year after the defeat.

After Immaculata scored the game's first goal, Wilkes responded with three straight tallies to take a 3-1 lead at the half. Maura Anistranski (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West) opened the Wilkes scoring with a goal off an assist from Surdy at the 11:41 mark. Wilkes then took the lead when Gianna Gennetts (West Pittston, PA/Wyoming Area) found Megan Kane (Kingston, PA/Wyoming Valley West) for her second goal of the season ten minutes later. Surdy notched her team-leading fifth goal of the season just two minutes later to put the Lady Colonels up by two at the break.

Two more second half Wilkes goal put the game out of reach as Gennetts and Surdy each found the back of the net to preserve the victory. Surdy's strike came off a crossing pass from Keighlyn Oliver (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Coughlin) that found the junior wide open in front of the cage.

Wilkes owned play in its offensive end for most of the contest holding a 38-3 shot advantage. Lady Colonel goalie Dallas Kendra (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) made two saves to record the win in net.

Wilkes returns to action Saturday when the Lady Colonels open MAC Freedom play at DeSales University at 1:00 p.m.
