Scranton Posts 2-0 Win Over Wilkes Men's Soccer
EDWARDSVILLE – Visiting University of Scranton scored one goal in the first half then added an insurance tally late in the second half on way to a 2-0 victory over Wilkes University Wednesday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.
Wilkes drops to 2-7 overall following the home defeat while Scranton improves to 7-1 on the season after the non-conference victory.
Scranton scored with 4:58 left in the first half when Henry Bonilla rocketed a shot to the upper left corner of the goal off a pass from Jeremy Mammen which was deflected off a Wilkes defender. Wilkes mustered just two shots on goal in the first half trailing by one at the break.
The Royals added a security goal late in the second half when Mammen connected on a ball right in front of the net with heavy traffic off a corner from Kieran Bracken with 5:24 left in the game.
Scranton held a 20-4 shot advantage while garnering 14 corners to Wilkes' three attempts.
Wilkes begins MAC Freedom play Friday when the Colonels host Delaware Valley University at 4:30 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
