EDWARDSVILLE – Host Wilkes University scored the game-winning goal late in the first half before adding an insurance tally in the second frame on way to a 2-0 shutout victory over Delaware Valley University in both teams' MAC Freedom opener Friday night at Schmidt Stadium.
 
With the win Wilkes earns its third win of the 2016 season moving to 1-0 in conference games. DVU drops to 4-5-1 overall and 0-1 in league matches.
 
Austin Kubin (Chesterfield, NJ/Northern Burlington) put the Colonels up 1-0 with 40:32 left in the first half when the junior headed home a corner from Camry Huff (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro).
 
Michael Hasbrouck (Vestal, NY/Vestal) put the game out of reach when he put home a rebound off a penalty shot at the 64:37 mark. Hasbrouck took the penalty when a Colonel was taken down in the box a play prior.
 
Wilkes held a commanding shot advantage at 22-12. Wilkes also garnered 10 corner kicks to DVU's five attempts.
 
Tim Gallagher (Easton, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) made four saves to record the shutout.
 
Wilkes returns to the pitch Wednesday when the Colonels host Ursinus College at 7:00 p.m.
