Wilkes Field Hockey Falls in Consolation Game at Connie Harnum Classic
SELINSGROVE, PA – Eastern Connecticut State notched the game-winning goal late in the second half on way to a 3-2 victory over Wilkes University in the consolation game of the Connie Harnum Memorial Classic hosted by Susquehanna University on Saturday afternoon.
Wilkes slips to 0-2 overall on the year after falling to the Kean in the tournament opener on Friday.
Eastern Connecticut State opened the scoring with a goal at the 23:17 mark before
Gianna Gennetts (West Pittston, PA/Wyoming Area) notched her first collegiate goal off a
Marissa Surdy (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) assist just three minutes later tying the game at one.
Caroline Regan gave Eastern Connecticut State the lead back at 2-1 right before the break scoring a goal at the 30:38 mark.
Megan Kane (Kingston, PA/Wyoming Valley West) went on the offensive at the 58:03 mark scoring her first goal of the season off a pass from Surdy. Kane's shot rocketed over the goalie's head into the back of the net tying the game at 2-2 heading into the final twelve minutes of regulation.
From there it was Alex Kallgren who notched the game-winner with 61:13 on the clock when she darted around
Dallas Kendra (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) and into the goal.
Wilkes held a 19-9 shot advantage while garnering nine penalty corners to Eastern Connecticut State's seven attempts.
Kendra finished with three saves in net for the Lady Colonels.
Wilkes continues its season opening road stretch with a non-conference tilt at Keystone College on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
