Early Goals Lead Wilkes Field Hockey to 2-0 Win at Keystone

LA PLUME, Pa. – Sophomore Haley Gayoski (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West) and senior Taylor Ryan (Fredericksburg, VA/Courtland) scored in the first 10 minutes to give the Wilkes University field hockey team its first win of the season, a 2-0 victory at Keystone College on Wednesday evening.

The Lady Colonels improved to 1-2 with the win.

Gayoski netted her first goal of the season in the sixth minute when junior Marissa Surdy (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) found her on a penalty corner for a shot at the top of the circle that beat the Giants goalkeeper.

Ryan followed suit in the eighth minute off of a rebound for her first goal of the season to give Wilkes a 2-0 lead.

Sophomore goalkeeper Dallas Kendra (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) made four saves to earn her first win of the season and second career shutout.

The Lady Colonels outshot Keystone 15-7 with an 11-4 advantage in shots on goal while also holding a 9-3 advantage in penalty corners.

Wilkes returns to action on Saturday when it will host Arcadia for a 12 p.m. non-conference home-opener at Schmidt Stadium.
