Surdy's Hat Trick Lifts Wilkes Field Hockey Over Widener 3-2 in Overtime
CHESTER, PA –
Marissa Surdy (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) scored three goals including the game-winner in overtime to lift visiting Wilkes University to a 3-2 victory over host Widener University Wednesday night.
Wilkes improved to 5-8 overall following the extra period victory while Widener fell to 9-3 overall after the defeat.
Surdy's game-winner came 7:59 into the overtime period as she dribbled through the defense and into the circle before ripping off a shot that sailed past the keeper and into the cage.
Surdy put Wilkes on the board first when she found the back of the cage after an Amber Gohowski shot rebounded to her stick 17:20 into the first half. Widener tied the game eleven minutes later when Jackie Daniels took a pass from Jordana Ambros at the top of the circle and beat
Dallas Kendra (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) to the right side.
Surdy added her second strike of the game early in the second half when she back-handed a shot past the Pride keeper giving Wilkes a 2-1 advantage. Daniels answered for Widener six minutes later with her second goal of the game tying it up at 2-2.
Surdy moved into second place on the school's all-time goals list with her 49
th career tally passing Diane Hall '82.
Wilkes gets back into MAC Freedom play Saturday hosting Manhattanville College at 12:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
