Wilkes Men's Soccer Earns Scoreless Draw at DeSales

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Wilkes University men's soccer team played to a 0-0 double-overtime draw in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom game at DeSales University Saturday afternoon behind seven saves from junior goalkeeper Tim Gallagher (Easton, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond).

With the tie Wilkes moved to 6-7-1 overall and to 1-2-1 in MAC Freedom games. DeSales, the No. 10 team in the United Soccer Coaches Mid-Atlantic Poll, is now 10-1-3 overall and 2-0-2 in conference action.

It was the fifth shutout of the season for Gallagher and the Wilkes defense as they held a Bulldogs team that was averaging two goals-per-game scoreless. He now has nine career shutouts in net for the Colonels. His final save came 52 seconds into the second overtime.

The Colonels played a man up after a DeSales player was sent off at the 59:10 mark.

Both teams finished the game with seven shots on goal. Sophomore Kyle Bentz (Camp Hill, PA/Camp Hill) led all players with four shots and three on goal.

Wilkes put the pressure on at the end of the second half as Bentz had a shot saved at the 86:51 mark and then on the ensuing corner kick by junior Camry Huff (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro), Bentz saw his header attempt go high of the Bulldogs goal. With five seconds left in regulation another Bentz shot was saved.

Huff and freshman Danny McGinley (Brodheadsville, PA/Pleasant Valley) each had two shots during the game and freshman Jeffrey Eager-Heffner (Blandon, PA/Fleetwood Area) had a shot go high 2:28 into the second overtime.

The Bulldogs hit the crossbar 7:22 into the first 10-minute overtime period.

Wilkes continues MAC Freedom play on Tuesday, October 17 when they travel to Dallas, Pa. to take on Misericordia University at 7:00 p.m.
