Wilkes Men's Soccer Breaks Out in 6-1 Senior Night Win Over Penn College

EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University men's soccer team scored a season-high six goals on Senior Night to defeat visiting Penn College 6-1 in non-conference action Wednesday night at Schmidt Stadium.

With the win Wilkes improved to 8-8-1 on the season and upped its home record to 6-3-0. Penn College fell to 7-11-1.

Before the game Wilkes honored its three seniors, Tyler Kukosky (Sweet Valley, PA/Holy Redeemer), David Sinegra (Millville, PA/Millville), and Casey Ritsick (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood). The game remained scoreless until the 33rd minute when Sinegra helped break the ice. He played a long ball into the box to the perfect location for junior Camry Huff (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) to run onto and one-time past the Wildcats goalkeeper. It was the first career assist for the senior.

Penn College would even the game at one in the 39th minute when Daniel Hibbs blasted a shot into the upper 90 from 25 yards out.

The Colonels would respond quickly by taking the 2-1 lead in the 42nd minute when freshman Jeffrey Eager-Heffner (Blandon, PA/Fleetwood Area) got on the end of a Ritsick free-kick from midfield and scored his third goal of the season.

Wilkes would pour it on offensively in the second 45 minutes. In the 47th minute Huff played a corner that Ritsick headed from the far post back into the middle of the field where sophomore Kyle Bentz (Camp Hill, PA/Camp Hill) headed it home for a 3-1 lead. The goal was the second of the season for Bentz and the fifth of his career. It was the fourth assist of the season for Ritsick and the third for Huff.

Huff made it 4-1 in the 65th minute with his second goal of the game. His initial shot was saved but he was quick to the rebound to put it into the empty goal. The two goals on the night brought Huff's total to 11 for the season and 15 for his career.

Freshman Lucas Snedeker (Scott Township, PA/Lakeland) would net the final two goals for the first goals of his career. First in the 72nd minute freshman Danny McGinley (Brodheadsville, PA/Pleasant Valley) played a great ball to Eager-Heffner on the left side. His shot was deflected by the goalkeeper but Snedeker was right on the doorstep to put it away. Eager-Heffner and McGinley both picked up assists on the play.

Snedeker's second goal made it 6-1 in the 84th minute. Eager-Heffner made a great pass in from the right side that Snedeker deflected with a one-timer at the near post. It was the third assist of the season for the freshman.

Wilkes outshot Penn College 28-9 in the game and by a 13-2 margin on goal. The Colonels also led in corner kicks 7-1.

Junior Tim Gallagher (Easton, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) made one save to pick up his eighth win of the season in goal for the Colonels.

Wilkes closes out its season on Saturday, October 28 when it travels to Purchase, N.Y. to face Manhattanville College in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom game at 3:30 p.m.
