Wilkes Women's Volleyball Falls in MAC Freedom Finale 3-1 to Misericordia

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's volleyball team wrapped up Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play on Wednesday evening inside the Marts Center, falling to Misericordia University 3-1.

The Lady Colonels finish conference play 1-6 and stand 8-21 overall.

The Cougars took a 5-1 lead early in the first set before Wilkes used a 6-0 run to jump ahead 7-5. Both teams traded points until a tie at 10, when Misericordia went on a 6-0 run of its own to take a 16-10 lead. Down 19-13, Wilkes took off to finish the set on a 12-3 run, taking the game 25-22.

The Lady Colonels started the second set with a 6-1 lead before the Cougars tied the score at seven. The score remained close until the end when Misericordia took a 25-22 win.

Wilkes began the third set with a 3-0 but the Cougars were able to fight back and keep it close, eventually taking the game 25-22.

The Lady Colonels held a 7-2 lead early in the fourth set and held a 22-19 lead late before Misericordia finished the set with six straight points to take the match 25-22.

Wilkes was led by Jamey Mikovich (Nesquehoning, PA/Panther Valley), who finished with 13 kills. Alex Ferrier (Cressona, PA/Blue Mountain) and Madison Scarfaro (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) finished with eight and seven, respectively, while Alexis Morgan (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) tallied 28 assists. Mikovich led the back line with 16 digs, followed by Juliet Betke (Poplar Grove, IL/Belvidere North), who had 14, and Shayna Fehrle (Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert), who had 12.

The Lady Colonels will finish out the regular season on Saturday with a tri-match featuring Utica College and Rutgers-Camden at the Marts Center starting at 11:00 a.m.
