ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Five players, including four starters, finished in double figures for points as the Wilkes University men's basketball team defeated Elizabethtown College on the road on Saturday afternoon.

The Colonels improved to 2-0 this season.

Wilkes held an 18-14 lead nine-plus minutes into the initial half before the Blue Jays went on a 9-0 run over the next 1:30 to take a 23-18 lead.

With 7:21 until halftime and the Colonels trailing 27-21, Wilkes used four points from Mark Mullins (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) and four points from Tommy Bowen (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) on a 9-0 run of its own to jump out to a 33-27 lead with 3:49 on the clock as the Colonels entered halftime with a 41-38 advantage.

After Elizabethtown cut the lead to just one with two free throws to start the half, a Rob Pecorelli (Huntington, NY/Harborfields) three-pointer with 19:21 on the clock sparked a 24-6 run over the next six minutes and twenty seconds as Wilkes sprinted to a 65-46 lead, its largest of the game, with 13:01 remaining.

The Colonels lead did not dip below 10 points for the remainder of the game as they cruised to the victory.

Zach Brunner (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) led the way for Wilkes with a game-high 18 points to go with eight rebounds. Mullins finished with 16 points, five rebounds, and three assists, Pecorelli added 13 points, five rebounds, and four assists, and Marcus Robinson (Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Regional) contributed 10 points and three assists. Bowen had his second career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in 27 minutes off the bench.

Four players finished with 10-plus points for the Blue Jays. Ethan DuBois (15 points), Michael Pastore (15 points), Connor Moffat (13 points, six rebounds, four assists), and Bryce Greene (11 points) all paced Elizabethtown.

The Colonels shot 29-of-54 from the field, good for a 53.7 percent clip, and were over 50 percent in both halves. Wilkes made the most of its second opportunities, winning the second-chance point battle 17-8 with the Colonels bench out-scoring the Blue Jays substitutes 25-14.

Wilkes returns to the court on Tuesday when it will host Penn State Wilkes-Barre for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference game at the Marts Center.
