Held's Eight Goals Leads Wilkes Women's Lacrosse to 20-14 Win over Notre Dame of Maryland

BALTIMORE, Md. – Junior Jessyca Held (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) recorded eight goals to lead the Wilkes University women's lacrosse team to a 20-14 victory at Notre Dame of Maryland University on Monday afternoon.

The Lady Colonels improved to 2-2 on the season with the victory.

Held got Wilkes on the board early, scoring an unassisted goal under four minutes into the game before Notre Dame scored three consecutive goals to take a 3-1 lead with 23:42 left in the first half.

The Lady Colonels cut the deficit to 3-2 when junior Maura Brownsey (Glenside, PA/St. Basil Academy) scored unassisted with 20:15 on the clock before the Gators scored twice more to push their lead to 5-2.

Wilkes fought back to tie the game with three unanswered goals. Held notched her second tally with an assist from sophomore Kyra Boccio (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) at 17:00, followed by Brownsey's second goal with a heloer from Held. Boccio tied the game with an unassisted goal at 13:15.

Notre Dame retook the lead at 12:39 before the Lady Colonels got goals from Held and freshman Reilly Meanor (Etters, PA/Red Land), both unassisted, to take a 7-6 lead. Boccio recorded her second goal of the game at 7:12 to push the lead to 8-6 before the Gators broke the run with a goal to cut the lead to 8-7 with 4:40 until halftime.

Meanor recorded her second goal with an assist from Brownsey at 3:03. Notre Dame scored at 1:20 before Brownsey finished the scoring in the first half at 0:40 with an assist from Held.

Held scored unassisted just 34 seconds into the second half to extend the lead to 11-8. The Gators cut the lead to 11-9 before the Lady Colonels scored five unanswered to push their lead to 16-9 with 21:59 remaining. Boccio and Held combined for three unassisted goals followed by Meanor with an assist from Held and junior Heather Lorincz (Bridgewater, NJ/Immaculata) finished off the run with her first career goal assisted by Meanor.

Notre Dame cut the lead to 16-10 with a goal at 14:52 but Held responded with yet another goal at 11:08. The Gators scored again at 9:19 with Boccio responding with a helper from Meanor at 8:25 to make the score 18-11.

The Gators inched closer with a goal at 4:46, but Held traded goals, scoring at 4:10 unassisted and at 0:31 with an assist to Boccio sandwiched between Notre Dame goals at 1:54 and 0:12.

Held led all scorers with 11 points on eight goals and three assists. Boccio added seven points on five goals and two assists while Meanor finished with three goals and two assists for five points.

Freshman Sarah Carlini (Collegeville, PA/Pope John Paul II) made nine saves to improve to 2-2 on the season.

Wilkes returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Centenary for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference matchup.
