Held and Brownsey Lead Wilkes Women's Lacrosse Past Maritime 17-7
 
THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – Jessyca Held (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) and Maura Brownsey (Glenside, PA/St. Basil Academy) combined for 11 of Wilkes University's 17 goals to lead the Lady Colonels to a 17-7 victory at SUNY Maritime on Saturday afternoon.
 
With the win Wilkes improved to 4-2 overall while Maritime remained winless at 0-4 on the season.
 
Maritime took a 1-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game before Wilkes began its furious rally of goals led by Brownsey, Reilly Meanor (Etters, PA/Red Land) and Held. Meanor scored three times, Held three times and Brownsey once to put the Lady Colonels ahead 7-1 with 6:30 remaining in the half. Maritime cut the advantage to 7-3 at the break scoring two unanswered goals to finished the first half.
 
Goals from Brownsey, Kyra Boccio (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) and Held pushed the lead up to 10-4 before Wilkes tallied seven of the final eight goals over the final 15 minutes of the second half to seal the ten-point road victory. Boccio added two more goals and Held three more tallies to top the second half surge.
 
Wilkes held a decisive shot advantage at 33-17 while garnering 40 ground balls and 10 draw controls. The Lady Colonels were also efficient in their own defensive end converting 23-of-31 in clear attempts.
 
Wilkes continues its road stretch Thursday traveling to the College of Old Westbury for match at 3:00 p.m.
