Wilkes Women's Lacrosse Upended at Old Westbury 18-8
 
OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – Host Old Westbury raced out to a 15-4 halftime lead and never looked back posting an 18-8 victory over visiting Wilkes University Thursday afternoon.
 
With the loss Wilkes slipped to 4-3 overall on the season while Old Westbury improved to 2-5 on the year.
 
Old Westbury scored the first five goals of the game before Kyra Boccio (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) notched her 24th tally of the season to put the Lady Colonels on the board at 18:28 of the first half. After two more Old Westbury goals, Reilly Meanor (Etters, PA/Red Land) scored the first of her three first half goals cutting the lead to 8-2 with 15:43 left in the half. Meanor added her second and third goals at the 11:22 and 4:54 marks, but three straight goals to close out the first half gave the hosts the 11-point advantage at the break.
 
Wilkes started the second half strong scoring five of the six goals scored in the frame. Boccio added three strikes followed by a goal from Jessyca Held (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) that brought the Lady Colonels to within 17-8, but another late tally from Old Westbury sealed the game and ended the hopes of a complete comeback.
 
Boccio led all Wilkes scorers with four goals and one assist. Meanor followed with three goals while Held finished with one strike. Sarah Carlini (Collegeville, PA/Pope John Paul II) posted 12 saves in net for Wilkes. Old Westbury held a 35-27 shot advantage with each team garnering 14 draw controls. Wilkes committed 22 turnovers while Old Westbury posted 17 miscues.
 
Wilkes returns to play Wednesday for its MAC Freedom opener against cross-town rival King's College at 4:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
