Wilkes Men's Lacrosse Falls 13-8 at Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Wilkes University men's lacrosse team traveled to Moravian College where it fell by a 13-8 final on Saturday afternoon.

The Colonels fell to 3-3 on the season.

Moravian started the scoring with 10:12 in the first quarter.

Wilkes got on the board with back-to-back goals from sophomore JT Weitzel (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll) at 10:03 and 1:29 in quarter one, and pushed the lead to 3-1 on a man-up goal from junior Nicholas Ruggiero (Califon, NJ/Voorhees) with an assist from Weitzel at 13:34 in the second quarter.

The Greyhounds cut the deficit to 3-2 with 6:12 left until halftime.

Ruggiero added a second goal to make the score 4-2 with 4:25 left in the half while sophomore John Wink (Glenside, Pa./Abington) scored a man-up goal to make the score 5-2 with 1:48 until halftime.

Moravian registered five unanswered goals to take a 7-5 lead.

Sophomore Max Brown (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) ended the skid with an assist from Wink with 4:50 left in the third quarter.

The Greyhounds pushed their lead to 8-6 with 4:28 in the third.

Wink tallied his second goal to cut the deficit to 8-7 with an assist from junior Jeremy Kachel (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) at 2:11.

Moravian added two unanswered goals to push the lead to 10-7.

Wink finished the scoring for the Colonels with his third goal with 12:12 left in the game.

The Greyhounds finished the game with three unanswered goals.

Freshman Carter Whittemore (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) made seven saves in the game.

Wilkes returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Immacuata for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference game.
