Big Second Half Leads Immaculata Past Wilkes Men's Lacrosse 14-8

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata outscored the Wilkes University men's lacrosse team 8-2 in the second half in its 14-8 defeat on Wednesday afternoon.

The Colonels fell to 3-4 with the loss.

The Mighty Macs jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals at 14:12 and 13:37.

Wilkes got on the board with 4:39 remaining in the first quarter when freshman John Wink (Glenside, Pa./Abington) scored unassisted.

Immaculata added an unassisted goal at 1:46 to push its lead to 3-1.

The Colonels fought back with three goals to take its first lead of the game at 4-3. Junior Nicholas Ruggiero (Califon, NJ/Voorhees) scored unassisted with 13:37 in the second quarter, followed by back-to-back goals from junior Jeremy Kachel (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) with junior Matt LaSorsa (Copiague, N.Y./Copiague) assisting on the first.

The Mighty Macs tied the game with 8:46 left in the first half before John Wink (Glenside, Pa./Abington) scored at 6:57 with an assist from freshman Connor Daly (Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Twp.) and again at 1:31 unassisted to give Wilkes a 6-4 lead.

Immaculata scored the final goal of the first half as the Colonels entered halftime with a 6-5 lead.

The Mighty Macs recorded eight consecutive goals to start the second half, jumping out to a 13-6 lead.

Weitzel ended the run with an unassisted goal with 9:22 left in the fourth quarter.

Immaculata scored its final goal at the 8:51 mark and Wink finished the scoring with 1:46 left in the game with an assist from sophomore Max Brown (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach).

Wink led the Colonels with four goals while Kachel finished with two.

Freshman Carter Whittemore (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) made eight saves in the first half before being replaced by freshman Cody Geidel (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley), who made five saves.

Wilkes returns to action on Saturday when it wraps up its non-conference schedule with a 7:00 p.m. trip to Alvernia.
